IAN COOK
FOUNDER, OWNER, CREATOR
Ian Cook has realized his vision of building a state-of-the-art recording studio in the heart of the Waterloo Region. Designed to inspire the passion of creators, the vibe of the space is creative and welcoming, and just downright cool.
Aesthetics, beauty and functionality are integrated in the studio’s sweeping interior – the spacious comfort of the control room, the amazing sightlines between the isolated and live rooms, the well-appointed lounge with a vista of the live room, isolated yet connected spaces for singing, spaces for playing and spaces for performing in any configuration desirable.
It is apparent Rupert Street Recording was designed by musicians for musicians.
Ian has meticulously assembled the most desirable, world-class collection of new, rare and vintage gear and instruments, all at the service of creators. With patch bays accessible in every nook and cranny of the studio, this gear allows for the creation of music anywhere, anytime by any number of musicians.
Rupert Street Recording’s vision is to make kick-ass records as an artist-centric partner for musicians. We believe the best music will happen when creators make Rupert Street Recording their home.

Industry Experts, Passionate Creators
Head Engineer, Olle Romo, has worked on some of the greatest sounding records of all time with artists such as Shania Twain, Bryan Adams, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Nickleback, Muse, Morgan Wallen and Maroon 5. After decades engineering and mixing around the world alongside iconic producers Mutt Lange, Chris Thomas, Dave Stewart and Jimmy Iovine, Olle has made Rupert Street Recording his home.
He brings this deep experience and his true passion for making the most kick-ass records to RSR in the service of both established and emerging artists. Olle’s artistic sensibility and his belief that everything starts with a great song are reasons he has been in demand in studios for over 3 decades.
Engineer, Sam Hillifer, has spent his entire life laser-focused on two things – music and tech. His first engineering gig at age 15 laid the groundwork for him to become a certified Logic Pro instructor. His deep knowledge of both in-the-box audio and analogue outboard gear is an invaluable resource in RSR’s creation of great sounding music.
Sam’s reputation as a creative collaborator stems from his song writing, performing and touring experience, and his in-studio mantra “All ideas are worth exploring.”
James Rowell knows Rupert Street Recording inside and out—literally. He designed and installed the studio’s custom wiring and continues to service its vast collection of vintage outboard gear, keeping everything performing at or above spec.
With over 25 years of professional experience in studio recording systems and large-format console service, James is also the founder of Sound Service Electronics, a globally respected firm known for precision work on top-tier brands like Neve, Studer, Ampex, API, and UREI.
He’s best known for restoring the legendary Neve A4792 AIR Montserrat console, originally built for George Martin and used on iconic albums by The Police. James also specializes in high dynamic range, low-noise installations in even the most technically challenging environments.
House technician, Josh Snider, specializes in servicing tube audio equipment, microphones, vintage synthesizers, effect units and pedals. He has designed and built studio and touring racks, panels, and infrastructure for dozens of artists including The Arkells, Metric and Shawn Mendes.
Josh founded Equilibrium Audio Group in 2006 which specializes in optimizing tube guitar amplifiers to perform at peak audio functionality, something our clients notice immediately after plugging in to the Rupert Street collection of amps.
Studio manager, Mia Romo, is on call to provide a seamless, enjoyable and memorable experience for RSR clients. From the initial inquiry to the final approval of the mixes, she will have the musician’s needs covered from transportation and accommodations to food and beverages. Behind the scenes, her attention to detail on administrative matters will ensure the creative process in the studio stays focused. Special requests are her specialty!
